A special meeting was held solely to discuss the development’s approval last Wednesday, which lasted about an hour and included a few guest speakers. The application was submitted back in June behalf of land owner EHW Holdings Pty Ltd, of which former rugby league star and Leyburn son Shane Webcke is a director, alongside his wife Allison. Five hectares of the 156 hectare site at 112 Kyle Road, Leyburn will make up the function facility and tourist park. The property is between Toowoomba Karara Road and O’Leary Road, not far from Leyburn’s border with Ellangowan. The woolshed has had a significant amount of restoration work undertaken in recent years. The approved operating statement for the Ellangowan Woolshed Function Venue states that up to 200 guests will be accommodated at the venue and there can be up to three events per month and 30 per year. The function facility will be available to hire between 8am and 8pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 2am Friday to Sunday and on public holidays. Parking will be entirely on-site, catered by 62 car parking spaces and a bus parking area. “Parking within the Kyle Road corridor is not encouraged and any guests visiting the site will be asked to park within the on-site parking area,”the operating statement says. The campgrounds will provide accommodation for up to 70 guests associated with an event at the function venue or 30 guests, within 10 sites, where not associated with an event at the function venue. The campground facilities will be available for one night for general guests associated with an event at the function venue and up to three nights for guests involved with setting-up or packing-up of an event or guests not associated with an event at the function venue. “Camping for guests not associated with an event at the function venue will only occur at times when there is no event at the facility,” the operating statement says. “The site manager will reside on the adjacent premises when campers are present on the subject site to ensure any complaints or safety issues can be appropriately addressed should they arise.”
