Over 40 ladies, pastors and visitors met at the Nobby church on Fett Road, under the theme Caring for Each Other and Ourselves based on the Bible text from 1 Peter 5:1-7.

Meg Eising explained the display at the front of the church, highlighting the ways in which we care for one another, and above all, how God cares for us.

The guest speaker was Ann Hopper, Senior Project Coordinator of the Staying at Home Dementia Project at Clifton Community Health Services.

The Stay at Home program is designed to empower and upskill carers to support a person living with dementia to remain at home for as long as possible.

In the past, Ms Hopper worked as Home Support Manager for Lutheran Services – Salem in Toowoomba.

The thought-provoking bible study was led by Pastor Charlie Uebergang who reflected on the consequences of overburdening ourselves with the concerns of the world.

He said the response to this can be found in Matthew 11:28-30 – ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

‘Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light’.

“We cannot do God’s work, or care for one another, when we are weighed down by our own burdens and worries of life,” Pastor Uebergang said.

“You don’t have to carry the whole weight of the world by yourself.”

The closing devotion was led by Lutheran Church of Australia – Queensland District (LCAQD) Bishop Rev. Mark Vainikka.

Bishop Vainikka returned to Nobby, having met with the congregation the day before as part of the Listening and Learning Tour with LCAQD Director, Commission for Mission, Rev. David Schmidt.

After the ladies’ general business was completed, fellowship was enjoyed over lunch in the hall.
