Youth With A Mission visit Oakey
A group of young people from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Brisbane visited the Oakey district this week to support local churches and help out residents around town.
On Monday, the group spent their day helping clean up the Bethlehem Memorial Hall at Norwin, having set up camp at Biddeston.
Andrew Mirtschin, Chairman at Bethlehem, said it was the first time the hall had been cleaned in over 10 years.
“It was a good chance to meet some new people, do a spring clean in the hall," he said.
“Everyone lives busy lives .”
YWAMers performed Reno Rescues at two Oakey houses.
The group visited Jondaryan and Mount Tyson townships, enjoying a visit to the Jondaryan Woolshed and praying outside the historic St Anne’s Anglican Church in the town.
CWA House was the beneficiary of a visit from the group on Thursday morning, with the group singing a variety of songs.
Oakey Community Barbecue was the scene of a visit on Thursday afternoon, with the group engaging with the church volunteers and local families.
On Friday, the team visited Oakey State School to assist with Christian Religious Instruction classes.
Saturday afternoon was dedicated to helping St. Paul’s Lutheran and Oakey Uniting Church.
On Saturday night, they joined in worship with Brazilian Christians at Grace Community Church.
On Sunday, they helped lead the music at services St. Augustine’s Anglican and Oakey Uniting Churches.
At both locations they spoke about what their mission was and where they were headed.
In the coming months, half of the team will head to Japan for a few months to partner with a local church, while the other half will go on a road trip to Melbourne.
Lutheran Pastor Ken Schultz, said the group helped put smiles on people’s faces.
“Everywhere they went, they were well received,” he said.
