You can bank... on The Clifton Courier
After 117 years in the same building, it has taken two months for The Clifton Courier to make the move across the tracks to the old NAB building on King Street.
The majority of the move happened last Thursday, with some finishing touches to take place over the coming weeks.
Dozens of boxes and loose items had littered the old office, many of which dated back to the ownership days of Mick and Gloria Grayson from the late 1960s to 2007.
Some items, such as old Clifton Show books and race meeting guides, were even older.
Some items have been donated to the Clifton and District Historical Society for their collection.
The Courier team is also in the process of re-purposing the bank’s strong room as
an archive room, including back copies of the newspaper in print, going back many decades.
One of the most repeated questions as a result of the move has related to the future of the old printing equipment at the Clark Street site.
While interest has been expressed in two old Linotype units which went out of service in 1994, nothing firm has occurred at this stage.
The old printing press itself was removed from the building a few years ago to provide more space for the growing staff.
Staff comfort was one of the main reasons for the move to King Street.
The Clifton Courier’s phone number, 4697 3603, has remained unchanged.
All mail should now be sent to 77 King Street, Clifton QLD 4361.
The premises at 60 Clark Street were only ever rented by The Clifton Courier’s current owners.
The owner of that building is presently considering its future.
