Women's Shed notches 1st year

PIttsworth Women's Shed members are planning their first birthday celebration on June 4, a fitting time to reflect on their year of giving back to the community.

The group has turned a mountain of donated yarns and fabrics into colourful and useful handmade items  that have been given to a range of nursing homes, hospital wards, schools and kindergartens during their first year.

President Glynn Mace said the busy group meets four times a week for a pleasant - and productive -  get-together.

Plans are underway for the group to move into a building being donated by Mr Trevor Saal in memory of his beloved wife, Pearl, at the Pioneer Village and the group is busy fundraising for its fit-out.

The celebration on Sunday, June 4 will be a Market Day with a variety of stalls and, of course, lots of Women’s Shed  creations on offer including winter warmers such as quilts,  crocheted blankets, beanies, fingerless gloves and snuggly pet beds.

Well known Toowoomba businessman and philanthropist Clive Berghofer will officially open the celebration.

There’ll be stalls of plants,  bric-a-brac, macramé and honey as well as a knife sharpener, music, raffles and a sausage sizzle. It is set to be a great day out and it’s all happening from 10am to 2pm at the old soft drink factory at 1 Yandilla Street.
