Woman raises almost $15K for cancer research
Pittsworth woman Rowena Briskey shaved her head on September 17 at the Pittsworth Bowls Club to raise funds for Kids for Cancer, and over 60 people came along to support her.
The initiative, which is headed by Cancer Council Queensland, aims to encourage individuals to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
One in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and with the help of generous people like
Rowena and all those who have donated, Cancer Council has a mission to achieve a cancer free future.
Rowena had a goal of raising $10,000 and she has smashed it, with her fundraising efforts currently totalling $14,061.60.
She raised this money through a number of avenues, including through online platforms and by selling raffle tickets, giving donors the chance to go in the running for a number of prizes.
The prizes included a Tiffany & Co basketball, which was won by Hamish Plath, a $100 fuel voucher, which Shelley McNab won, and note boards which were won by Judy Thompson, Trev from the pub, Adrian Draper, Hal Hamlet, Ella Hollis, Riley Flett, Mia (West) Wilkes, Kellie Scotney, Bec Seagrott, Lin Brazil and Rhonda Ashton.
Rowena said she had a great night and wished to thank the Pittsworth Bowls Club for hosting the event, Leah Moore for acting as M.C., and all those who have supported her along the way.
