William Morris Selected By UQ For STEM Camp
William, an Allora local, has been given the opportunity to participate in the “QU inspire U” STEM camp for young Indigenous Australians (STEM meaning science, technology, engineering and maths).
The camp five day camp at the University of Queensland allows participants from years 10 to 12 to come together and explore potential study options in the field of STEM, and gain practical insights into a range of disciplines.
A proud Wiradjuri man, William was selected by first showing interest in the camp.
He did this through attending a UQ solar farm tour in which staff from UQ and the InspireU program were present.
After this he submitted an application for the camp and following a competitive national administered selection process, he was one of few to be accepted.
William also had to show that he excelled academically in STEM subjects done at school of which he has.
The program will include a range of activities such as exploring the UQ campus, taking part in practical hands-on STEM related activities, engaging in sessions to further understand humanities and social sciences and getting the chance to meet other people at a similar age with similar interests.
William has a big future ahead. He wishes to pursue a career within STEM and is considering a career in either IT or Computer Science.
With his current grades he will be accepted into his preferred tertiary pathway. William associates this with home environment including loving his supportive Allora community in which he lives.
