Wattles ‘All In Electrical’ Under 15 Girls League Tag half Teeah Davis had the club history gurus scratching their heads as she contributed five tries to the Warriors 60 – 6 winning total on Saturday, 3 August at Platz Oval against Goondiwindi.

The Goondiwindi line-up was short on players, with four considerate young Wattles ladies swapping teams for the match.

Peighton Hetherington, Mahalia Williams, Molly Williams and Preseis Williamson showed exceptional sporting spirit helping out their opponents, all impressing with fine games and Preseis converting Goondiwindi’s sole try.

Wattles took advantage of their dominance running in twelve tries to one, a try fest with five by Teeah Davis, Mia Berry (3), Ella Morris (2) and Georgia Death, while Kaleah Short crossed for her debut season touchdown.

Without their regular Wattles goal kickers, Zoey Sweet, Teeah Davis, Mia Berry and Roxy Williams all stepped up and kicked six conversions from twelve attempts.

Coach George Berry commended his team on their high standard of play, whether in Wattles or Goondiwindi colours.

Saturday saw the Goondiwindi Boars descend on Clifton on a magnificent Winter’s Day for Round 13 Warwick & District Junior Rugby League fixtures against the Wattles junior Warriors as part of the massive Super Saturday program shared with Wattles seniors.

Both Platz Oval fields were hosting action in Under 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15 & 17 & Under 15 Girls League Tag age grades, while Wattles Under 18 girls sat out a bye.

Clifton Upholstery Under 6 - Coach Nick Van Der Poel rated his Under 6 team’s performance as excellent against the smallest Boars, with plenty of clever attack and strong defence on show.

Bailee Monckton, Ollie Van Der Poel, Rupert Ferguson, Jack Wilson and Aubrey Thompson-Cleary put on some great tries.

Billy Byrne, Dusty Sauverain, Alex Nelson and Murphy Knight all shone in defence.

The Under 6s continue to improve every week gathering experience, “which is great to see,” says coach Nick.

Dalrymple Landscape & Haulage Under 9 - The Shadai Daley coached Wattles Under 9 side is showing the benefits of working hard on defence, tackles and communication amongst the team.

Saturday’s tough match was played at a fast pace, and while Goondiwindi finished ahead, Wattles crossed for eight tries.

“The boys put in their all and as a coach that’s all we can ask  for,” Shadai said.

Special mention also to the Under 9 players who stepped up a grade to run on with the Under 10 Warriors, Chaz Daley, Henry Ferguson and Jackson Wilson.

Black Toyota, Warwick Under 10 - Wattles Under 10 line-up started their game slowly against the Boars, and were somewhat shocked when Goondiwindi ran in numerous tries in the first half.

However, for the last home game of the season the Warriors lifted in the second half and produced some of their best football so far this season.

Along with excellent defence, Wattles were stringing together numerous passes in attack which resulted in a one sided second half in their favour.

Henry Johnson ran the ball strongly, with Toby Schmidt lifting to another level unloading the ball.

Rhys Gascoyne and Will Ehrlich impressed with their all-round games, while Hunter Ryan toiled endlessly throughout and crossed for two tries.

Tommy Saville excelled, running straight and hard, contributing to a fine second half team effort.

“Our Warriors never give up, it was pleasing to watch,” coach Chris Ryan said.

Ryanie for Tyres Under 12 - Wattles Under 12 side is contender for the most improved team in the club according to coach Russell McMillan.

“The players have obviously developed so much since their experience in the mid-season carnivals, their ability to move the ball around the field in particular,” he said.

Classy centre Levi Zadow ran on a try this week in Wattles’ win, a great follow up from his five try effort the week previous.

Wattles worked through the middle well with plenty of go forward, Leah Moore, Jack Shannon and Matt Christensen shining.

With Stanthorpe unable to field a team, the Under
12s will sit out this
Saturday’s fixtures, back on the paddock against Collegians the following weekend.

Nutrien Harcourts Clifton Under 13 - Wattles Under 13 side fell to second on the ladder Goondiwindi 46 – 8, with Cooper Zadow and Jade Bailey crossing for the Warriors tries.

Drayton Medical Centre Under 15 - Wattles’ undefeated Under 15 side is still seated comfortably at the head of the premiership ladder after overwhelming Goondiwindi 42 – 0.

Coach Glen McMillan commended his charges for holding their opponent scoreless.

Wattles 43 Jack Burton 3, Ben Rauchle 2, Angus McArthur, Orry Gilmore, Zac Wheeldon tries; Ty Betts 3, Patrick Baty, Orry Gilmore goals) defeated Goondiwindi 0.

FarmSpray Under 17 - Coach Matt Christensen rated the Under 17 clash a “tough, gritty game that went down to the wire.”

The third on the ladder Warriors suffered a 12 - 10 defeat after leading 6 - 4 at half time.

The match see-sawed in the final stanza, the Boars scoring to move ahead 8 – 6 with twelve minutes remaining.

But when Zac Wheeldon crossed in the corner, Wattles edged ahead 10 – 8.

The Boars took the honours though through a Darcy McGregor touchdown in the closing minutes.

Wattles’ best on park was lock forward Charlie Spina with one of his best games of the season.

Front-rower Patrick Fitzgerald and fullback Ben Barbierato also stood up in a spirited effort.

Goondiwindi 12 defeated Wattles 10 (Charlie Spina, Zac Wheeldon tries; Ben Barbierato goal).

Warwick & District Junior Rugby League – Round 14 - In what is the second last fixture Round before the commencement of the finals series, Wattles head south to the Granite Belt this Saturday up against the Stanthorpe Gremlins at Crisp and Sullivan Ovals.
