Westbrook revisits unveiling of “Digger”

A large crowd assembled at the Westbrook Community Hall on ANZAC Day to witness the re-enactment of the district’s “Digger” war memorial being unveiled.

The statue was first unveiled in 1922 by the Member for Darling Downs, Littleton Ernest Groom.

One hundred years later, on 25th April, 2022, the Federal Member for the seat which now carries the name Groom, unveiled the statue for a second time.

Garth Hamilton, undertook the duty during a special Centenary Service, arranged to mark the anniversary.

The man who had driven organisation of the Centenary Service, Dieter Hitchins spoke about his daughter Tamara, who is currently posted overseas with the RAAF. 

Tamara had attended Bunker’s Hill State School and Harristown State High School and is a Flight Lieutenant.
