Westbrook Lion gets top honour
Dieter Hitchins this year received a Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest award in Lions Clubs Australia.
He received the award for humanitarian service for dedication to his Club and community.
Mr Hitchins was invited to become a member of Westbrook & Districts Lions Club Inc in 2017.
He has previously held the position of Treasurer for the Westbrook Lions Club and is currently both the serving Treasurer and Vice President.
When presenting the award, his club President said Mr Hitchins has displayed consistent effort to update and better the practices of our club.
“The hours of dedication and personal time has been enormous in the reforms he has produced,” he said.
“It is not only in the performance of administrative service and excellence that he has displayed this dedication.
“Being awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow is an important thing, and receiving one after only six years’ service compounds the recognition deserved.
“This member has consistently liaised with and organised local businesses in provision of donated goods and services to our club for many events.”
The Westbrook Lions Club is active in the local community holding fundraising events, barbecues, weekly tavern fundraising raffles, local community gatherings like Halloween street event, and donating to other local, regional, and international community and humanitarian programs
Mr Hitchins is currently helping organise the Lions District Convention for Millmerran at the end of September and he holds the position of Treasurer for this huge undertaking.
