Wattles Under 15 Home in a Bell Ringer

An Orrie Gilmore penalty goal three minutes prior to full time served up a thrilling 28 – 26 winning conclusion for the Drayton Medical Centre Under 15 Wattles Warriors in their win over the Warwick based Collegians Dragons on Saturday at Platz Oval.

Wattles victory has them on the top of the Warwick & District Junior Rugby League Under 15 premiership ladder at the end of the first Round of fixture competition.

Both teams ran in five tries apiece and landed three conversions each to have the scoreboard locked at 26 all ten minutes from full time.

Wattles try scorers included Archer Steinhardt, Joseph Llewellyn, Ben Rauchle, Zavier Dalsanto and William Peters, while Orry Gilmore (3) & Ty Betts were successful with goals.

Clifton Upholstery Under 6 - For the first time this season the Nick Van Der Poel coached Wattles Under 6 side fielded their full nine player roster.

In a much-improved team performance most players crossed for some impressive tries. Defence is just as important though with some great try saving tags on show.

Railway Hotel, Allora Under 8 - The Warriors Under 8’s put together a fantastic effort in their contest.

Ethan Willett’s impressive performance, that earned him the Clifton Jam Factory Man of the Match award, was a highlight of the game. Despite the tough loss against Collegians, Wattles showed resilience and determination, and it’s clear they’ll be back stronger and more determined than ever according to coach Jared Gault.

Dalrymple Landscape Haulage Under 9 - Fresh from their recent amazing venture to Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast, Under 9 coach Shadai Daley has had her players working on their defence.

“We will continue with this in future games and training days.”

Crackerjack Chicken Man of the Match was a very impressive Jay Townsend.

Black Toyota, Warwick Under 10 - A Wattles Under 10 team short on troops toughed out a challenging game against Collegians. Coach Chris Ryan was very pleased the way his players never gave up and kept on trying.

Hunter Ryan received the Cracker Jack Chicken Player of the Match with team mates Carter Lyons and Tommy Saville playing well playing well.

“Many thanks to Henry Ferguson, James Patterson and Chaz Daley from the Under 9’s who played up a grade helping out with numbers.”

Clifton Auto Ag Under 11 - Coach Josh Schwenke rated the effort of his Under 11’s highly against the Dragons.

Will Berry took out Man of the Match honours with an outstanding performance leading the team around the middle with numerous tackles and hit ups.

Liam Hoey also continued with another shining defensive effort, while Levi Grogan and James Mason lead the way in the forwards with plenty of hit ups.

Nutrien Harcourts Clifton Under 13 - It wasn’t a day of rewards for Wattles Under 13’s finishing on the end of a 6 – 40 losing result against a polished Collegians outfit.

Despite a high level of illness and injury in the hard-fought contest, affecting Wattles line up and performance, they went to the breaking still in the game trailing 6 – 14.

Six unanswered second stanza tries saw the Dragons ahead 40 – 6 at full time.

Jake burns, Mathew Christensen and Cooper Zaddow impressed for Wattles, with the green and gold points coming from James Christensen and a Jake burns conversion.

All In Electrical Under 15 Girls League Tag - While they may have trailed 6 – 28 when the full-time hooter sounded, Coach George Berry was adamant the score wasn’t a true indication of how the game played out.

Wattles were well in the contest until midway through the second half.

“The girls are certainly trying hard and are improving with every game they play” said coach Berry.

Amelia Hoey scored her debut try, her team’s only try.

“Handling errors and uncharacteristic mistakes cost us dearly and we struggled to find any real momentum.”

With the ball in their hands Wattles often look promising, but full marks to the Collegians defence.

Farm Spray Under 17 - Wattles Under 17 side were no match for a rampant Dragons outfit who careered to a 32 – 6 victory.

Atticus Sullivan scored Wattles single touchdown, with Ben Barbierato converting.

Atticus was rated best on ground in green and gold, in his initial run as lock forward this season, “he sure didn’t disappoint leading the way with his defensive presence and running game” said coach Matt Christensen.

Others to impress included Patty Denny, who was dangerous with the ball throughout, Patty Fitzgerald who “showed up massively in defence on his side of the park.”

The Club Hotel, Clifton Under 17 Girls League Tag - Wattles Under 17 girls certainly impressed despite Collegians finishing 42 – 28 victors, Wattles with just nine players and no bench.

Regan McMillan, who earned Player of the Match honours for her shining performance, Alexandra Gilmore, and Jessica Bateman all crossed for touchdowns in what was a gutsy team performance.

“The girls are showing improvement each game and starting to put their game tactics together” said coach Bill Gorringe.

Wattles Willett Electrical Under 7 and Ryanie for Tyres Under 12 teams also took the field against Collegians in a massive day of junior rugby league.

Warwick & District Junior Rugby League - Round 2 – Game 6.

Wattles head south to the Blues territory this Saturday at Rugby League Park, Tenterfield for the start of Round 2 fixtures up against the Tenterfield Tigers.
