Wattles Feature in Junior Finals

The Warwick and District Junior Rugby League Preliminary Finals were centre stage at Inglewood on Saturday, and while the Wattles Under 13 boy’s line-up saw the curtain fall on their season, the Under 17 ladies are in line for season honours.

Wattles Juniors Girls off to Big Dance - Indeed, there were some very excited young players dressed in green and gold celebrating the Wattles Club Hotel Under 17 Ladies League Tag team’s 24 – 16 winning result over the talented Collegians Dragons of Warwick.

The result has the Dan Wallis coached Wattles team Grand Final bound taking on the Tenterfield Tigers at Tenterfield’s Rugby League Park this Saturday, September 3rd.

Wattles try scorers included Billie Leigh with a try double, Abby Monckton, Clare Parry and Teeah Davis with Steph Lyons on target with two converted goals.

Season Ends for Promising Under 13’s - Wattles courageous Nutrien Harcourts Cooke Real Estate Under 13’s contested their semi-final against a clinical Collegians Dragons outfit, eventually losing in a one-sided affair 42 - 6.

After taking the honours as initial try scorers, the young Warriors struggled to retain momentum and were out played in their efforts to stay in touch with their opponents. 

Team mentor Glen McMillan said “while disappointing to finish our season with a tough loss, as coach I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s development throughout the year. 

“As a team we wish our club mates, the Under 17 boys and girls league tag side the very best of luck in next weekend’s grand finals.”

Wattles Eye Off First Under 17 Silverware - After cooling their heels last weekend due to their earning a match break as Major Semi-Final winners the Shane Wright coached Hamblin Builders Under 17 boys’ squad are primed for this Saturday’s season decider against traditional rivals  the Collegians Dragons. 

Historically it could be the Wattles club’s first Under 17 premiership silverware should they be successful. 

The Under 17 division was added to the Warwick & District JRL premiership commencing this year.

An Under 17 division however existed in the Toowoomba Rugby League until the early 2000’s.
