Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) aircraft were dispatched early to a recent grassfire, flying for two hours to contain the fire to 21 hectares and allowing ground crews to extinguish.

A QFES spokesperson said both aircraft combined to conduct 72 drops for around 170,000 litres of water delivered to the fireground.

“Prediction modelling found that without aircraft support this fire would have had the potential to run into grassland areas and up into more dense, timber country,” the spokesperson said.
