Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Water and Waste Portfolio Chair Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff said a series of upgrades is currently underway at the Clifton treatment plant to ultimately improve the treated effluent quality and enable transition to an effluent re-use scheme.

“The upgrades include relining and refurbishment of the existing lagoons, chemical coagulation dosing of the influent, tertiary filtration of the final effluent, a chlorination unit for disinfection of the final effluent and an irrigation system comprising three centre pivot irrigators and supporting infrastructure on adjacent land,” Cr Vonhoff said.

“The design of the plant process upgrades has been finalised and the refurbishment of the existing lagoons is nearing completion.

“Construction of the process enhancements and irrigation system has also commenced.

“Wet weather has contributed to some of the delays on this project with estimates the project will be complete mid-2023.”

In the 2022/23 TRC Annual Budget, $1.5 million was allocated to the design and construction of the plant.

Traffic control has often been in place on Mcoscar Road as well as the adjoining section of Felton Clifton Road as work takes place.
