Warm, slightly wet winter expected

While heaters and fireplaces will still need to be blazing, there should be no need to worry about black frost and the like this winter as the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) predicts a warm, and slightly wet, season.

Some parts of the Clifton  district had their first taste of frost this year on Monday morning.

In 2023, there had already been several frosts by this time of year and at the end of the month there were ten days out of eleven where lows below 0 were recorded.

BoM’s climate outlook for June to August predicts a very high chance of a warm winter for nearly the entirety of the country.

In Clifton itself, BoM predicts there is a 98 per cent likelihood that daily minimum temperatures will exceed the historical median of 4.0℃.

There is an 82 per cent chance daily minimums will be unusually warm, or above 5.2℃.

Daily maximum temperatures are much the same.

There is a 98 per cent chance temperatures will be above the historic median of 18.9℃ and an 84 per cent chance it will be unusually warm, or above 19.8℃.

In terms of rainfall, BoM predicts there is a 59 per cent chance winter rainfall will be above the historic median of 80.6mm.

There is a 34 per cent chance it will be unusually wet, or above 118.9mm of rain, and a 21 per cent chance it will be unusually dry, or below 39.9mm.

July is expected to be the wettest month, followed by June.
