Walk Safely to School Day
Last Friday 20th May students across the country celebrated ‘Walk Safely to School Day’.

Oakey State School students gathered at 8.20am at two points in the community: Lions Park and the Oakey Railway Station.
From there, students walked together in groups with teachers to school.
The National Walk Safely to School Day is in its 23rd year of promoting road safety, health, public transport and the environment.
This annual event encourages primary school children with their parents and carers to walk safely and regularly to school.
The main objectives of National Walk Safely to School Day are encouraging children to walk regularly all or part of the way to school, to promote road safety, including that until a child is 10, they must always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
Additionally, the day promotes the health benefits of walking, reduces car dependency and traffic congestion around schools, reduces the level of air pollution created by vehicles and promotes the use of public transport.
Children deserve every protection we can give them while they are growing up.
