Vale View students take part in important project
The University of Queensland (UQ) has been engaged in a research project, the Study Fresh IAQ Project, looking into how air quality can impact on concentration and wellbeing of students.
It is not something we think about a lot but it can have an impact on our lives.
Last week, a team from UQ ran a workshop with the Year 5/6 students where they built their own indoor air quality (IAQ) sensors, monitored the air quality in their classrooms and shared ways through which we can improve it.
It was interesting to see how CO₂ levels rose indoors to quite high levels when windows where closed and then declined when cross ventilation was introduced.
Outside the air was crystal clear.
This helped the students gain a deeper understanding of the term “Go outside and get some fresh air.”
The students were able to take on the role of an electrical engineer and constructed the sensor unit and programmed it from scratch using Python programming language.
A lot is going on at Vale View State School lately, with the school fete this weekend.
From 11am to 3pm, head to the school to enjoy a fun-filled day of food, great coffee or drinks for the kids, stalls and entertainment.
