Vaccination hub to open at Oakey State High School this weekend
All Oakey locals over the age of 12 years who are yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccination or need their second jab are urged to get down to the Oakey State High School this weekend with Darling Downs West Moreton hosting a special two day vaccination blitz.
The Pfizer vaccination hub will be running from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.
It will be a walk-in clinic and no bookings are required, just bring your Medicare Card and some form of ID.
Former Toowoomba resident and NRL player, Ash Taylor, is set to make an appearance at the vaccination hub from 9am to 11am.
He will be meeting and greeting local residents as well as promoting the benefits of getting a COVID-19 vaccination.
The Vaccination Hubs will be returning in three weeks operating at the same time to administer dose 2.
The clinic is part of the State Government's Super Saturday vaccination blitz with up to 100 high schools across the state involved in the operation.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged Oakey residents to make use of the local clinic.
“Vaccinations are the key to saving lives and reuniting Queenslanders with their friends and family," she said.
"If you’ve been saying you’ll just wait a bit before getting the vaccine – it’s time for you to come forward and get vaccinated now.”
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said residents can not be complacent when it comes to the risks of contracting COVID-19.
“We want anyone aged 12 and over who is yet to be vaccinated to come to any of our vaccination clinics, walk in and get the jab," she said.
“We cannot be complacent. Just because COVID-19 may not have reached your community yet does not mean it won’t.
“We need more of our regional Queenslanders to get vaccinated now to protect themselves, their loved ones and their communities.
“The vaccine is the best way to protect yourself against serious illness from COVID-19 and it is key to charting a course through the next stages of the pandemic."
