TRC quells concern about Greenmount’s water
Following some fear about the quality of the water delivered to residents of Greenmount, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Water and Waste General Manager Damian Platts has affirmed that there are no issues with the water quality.
Mr Platts said Greenmount’s water is sourced from local basalt aquifers.
“As the water is sourced from the bores, there is no water treatment, apart from disinfection, before it is then made available for distribution through the town’s water supply network,” Mr Platts said.
“To ensure the water is potable and safe for public consumption, Council undertakes regular and comprehensive testing of the water as per the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
“In the 2019/20 financial year, there were no cases of non-compliance with the Greenmount water supply.”
Mr Platts said any areas of non-compliance would be reported to the regulator immediately.
“These results are available in Council’s Drinking Water Quality Management Plan Annual Report which is publicly available.
“The 2020/21 Drinking Water Quality Management Plan Annual Report will be available later this year.
“There were no cases of non-compliance with the
Greenmount water supply, additionally there have been no non-compliances recorded this year,” Mr Platts said.
In July, TRC recorded one Water Quality Customer Contact for Greenmount which was classified as hardness.
Hardness usually means a higher than usual concentration of hard minerals in the water, usually calcium and magnesium.
The Greenmount water supply services a population of 578 through 224 connections.
