TRC planning for new Southern Waste Facility
Planning is underway for a new waste facility to serve the southern sector of the Toowoomba Region.

Toowoomba Regional Council Water and Waste Committee portfolio leader Cr Nancy Sommerfield said in this financial year, Council is in the planning stages of upgrading both the Greenmount and Millmerran Waste Management Facilities and has allocated $280,000 to continue design works for these projects.
When the proposed new facility for Greenmount was announced, the Council indicated that it would be along the lines of a Tier 2 facility which was developed at Kleinton, north of Toowoomba, during 2020.
The Kleinton project wa designed on a smaller scale of the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at Wellcamp.
The process in use provides a more efficient method of managing the many different types of waste.
“To date, the concept design work for the Greenmount facility is progressing well,” Cr Sommerfield said.
“The next stage will be finalisation of this concept and
release of the work package for design and construction tender.
“As this is a significant project, construction is likely to occur over two financial years.
“We plan to have the new facility operating by June 2024, however this timing is subject to Council capital funding considerations.”
