Recently, during a discussion with Nat and Tiff Spary from Base Services, the Club agreed to help out with some barbecues to help feed the homeless during the busy time.

Members agreed do two lunchtime barbecues on Wednesday, 18 October and Thursday, 19 October to help Base Services cover a busy period where their volunteers were stretched to the max.

In September, Lions Merv Symons, Thelma McKeon, Bob Steger, Greg Sleeman, Bronwyn Rees and Ian Scarborough attended to the barbecue and fed nearly 90 clients.

The Club provided steak burgers, sausage burgers and salads for the lunch.

Naturally, the steak burgers were the most popular and several clients came back for seconds.

The next day, the Club provided another barbecue lunch for the clients.

This time the volunteers were, Cheryl and David Orton, Derek Tuffield, Elaine and Graham Nosse, Thelma McKeon, John Churchett and Ian Scarborough.

The weather was warm, and the members toiled and again provided lunch for nearly 90 clients.  Again, the steak burgers were a big hit.

Everyone of the clients of Base Services thanked the Lions for coming and providing lunch.

“This sign of respect makes you indeed proud to be a Lion and providing this community service that is appreciated by those falling on hard times,” Lion Merv Symons said.

“Another successful project which helped a lot of people.

“Many thanks to our band of our volunteers for making these projects enjoyable.”
