Tivoli Theatre plays host to members of Warwick car club

Sixty-one members of the Warwick Veteran and Vintage Vehicle Club braved a very cold morning last Sunday to gather in Clifton at 9am for, of all things, a movie at the New Tivoli Theatre.

Two beautiful “gangster” style cars from the 1930/40s made the journey to Clifton.
Two beautiful “gangster” style cars from the 1930/40s made the journey to Clifton.

They came in their “favourite” vehicles,  as members of this club seem to have more than one or two vehicles in their garages.

On this particular day their “favourite“ vehicle was one with a roof to keep out the  chilly winter’s air.

However, two brave members drove from Warwick in a Mazda MX5 sports car with no roof, but with beanies, good coats and gloves.

Members with motor bikes showed no fear of the cold and turned up without any complaints about the weather.

The passion of these brave souls was displayed on one member’s shirt that said: “I belong to a drinking club that has a motor bike problem”.

They came to Clifton to watch the 1953 film Genevieve, a comedy about the London to Brighton car rally and theatre owner Ruth Hungerford greeted them with hot coffee and tea.

After several members visited Ruby’s Gift shop it was off to O’Shanley’s Irish Pub for lunch and then a tour of the Clifton Historical Society Museum.

A very full day and hopefully an enjoyable one.
