The Oakey High student who played Origin
Former professional footballer Craig Teevan attended Oakey State High School from 1982 to 1986 before embarking on his professional rugby league career.
The son of a town clerk, Teevan achieved great success in athletics during his time at school, making the Queensland Schoolboys Under 15 and Open teams for Rugby League and winning the Queensland Athletics 400 metre event for the 15 years, as well as representing the Darling Downs at swimming.
Teevan says his fondest memories from school were the friendships he formed, the High School Socials and Fun Fairs.
Post-school, Teevan was signed to play for the Brisbane Broncos in their inaugural season, whilst he was studying to be a teacher.
He went on to teach for three years, in Brisbane for two years and one in Sydney, while playing for Cronulla and Manly.
In 1995, he became a full-time footballer during the time of rugby league’s expansion in Australia, playing for the South Queensland Crushers for three years, and captaining their last season in 1997.
Teevan finished his career with the Gold Coast Chargers in the first season of the new National Rugby League competition.
The highlight of his career though, was undoubtedly playing for the Maroons in the monumental 1995 State of Origin series, which saw Queensland win without their Brisbane Broncos players, due to the Super League ‘War’.
After retiring, Teevan became CEO of the Ipswich Jets for seven years, before going into property development.
He shares four children with his wife, and frequently appears at International Legends of League events across Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.
