The Grand Old Lady turns 115 years old
2021 sees the Goom-burra Hall add another year to a Goomburra icon. It’s time for our “Back To Goomburra Day; - rekindle memories and make new ones!” on Saturday, 11th September at the Goomburra Hall.
In 1906 through community support and commitment the Goomburra Hall was built. The wealth of history around this has been documented in the Goomburra Valley 1840 – 1998 written by local Goomburra person David Newton (deceased) whose children still live in the valley.
Recently the Goomburra Town Hall Committee had a gathering of Goomburra elders and interested parties to reminisce about events that have previously been celebrated by the Goomburra community involving the Hall. The committee is interested in collating people’s thoughts and photos on the past, present and future regarding the Goomburra Valley and the Hall.
As recently reported in the Allora Advertiser (21/04/2021) by the Historical Society, Lesley Telford has started to investigate her heritage in the Goomburra Valley after attending the gathering at the Hall. Lesley has also shared her story with the committee to be included in the ‘Goomburra: Past, Present and Future’ photobook.
This is your opportunity, like Lesley, to tell your story: if you live, work, own a business or play in the valley this is your chance to document your story for future generations to come.
As part of the celebration, the hall will be hosting events and activities with further details to come.
