By the end of November, after 30 weeks of matches, only one point separated the two teams on the points ladder, and for the first hour it seemed the final was heading the same way.

After the first round of four sets, Cellos were leading by one game, 22-21, but Bongos moved ahead winning the middle round 25-19, even though the sets were again shared two apiece.

Then taking three of the last four sets, Bongos pulled away to win 70-57, seven sets to five.

Shannon and Gabi were the night’s only three set winners, while Rebekah for Bongos and Hedley for Cellos were next best, winning 19 games each.

Gary for Cellos won 18, as did Bongos captain Phill.

Also playing in the final for Bongos were Aaron, Sam, Greg and Ben.

Brodie was their non-playing team mate, with Steve and Kate Fogarty also in Bongos for the first half of the year.

Cellos fought hard all the way last Tuesday, with Glen, Con, Lisa, Dusanka, Rhodora and Vogue their other players on the night.

Club president Bruce Von Hoff made presentations to both teams at the close of play.

Social tennis continues for interested players at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings during the school holidays.
