Ash Taylor is ready for a big season with the Oakey Bears.

Taylor, who has steered the ship at Brothers and Newtown since his retirement from the NRL, says he is looking forward to playing in Oakey, the town where his father Randall played, and where his grandmother lives.

Although his fitness has been an issue in his last two Toowoomba Rugby League seasons, Taylor said he is more ready than ever.

“I’ve been doing more training this year,” he said.

“I’ve been a bit battered and bruised coming in, but the club is looking after me.”

Since signing with the Bears, Taylor has been out and about doing promotional work for the club at the local schools.

The ex-Gold Coast Titans halfback says Gatton, Wattles and Dalby stand out as the teams to beat this year, but any team can be a challenge on their day.

On the 15th March, Oakey travels to Ipswich club West End for a trial match.
