Stump by stump, wire by wire
Based out of Warwick, BlazeAid volunteers have been working hard over the last few weeks clearing debris and rebuilding destroyed fences on properties across the region that have been affected by the barrage of rain and flooding events.
Since early June, the Warwick BlazeAid camp has been working with landholders who have requested help with property located within an approximate 60 kilometre radius of Warwick.
Debbie Buttler from BlazeAid said from 7 June to 20 June, the first two weeks of the endeavour, 22 properties had been registered as part of the project.
She said two properties had been finished, with 11 kilometres cleared and 5 kilometres of fencing rebuilt.
She said BlazeAid was appreciative of the time contributed by the first twelve volunteers, who had put in 73 volunteer days in those two weeks.
Brad Young, the coordinator for the Warwick camp, said his teams have been enjoying the experience thus far.
“It’s been really good. The dry weather has helped,” Mr Young said.
“The volunteers are loving it.
“The farmers don’t know what to expect but are over the moon with what we’re doing.”
Volunteers worked on properties on O’Leary and Clifton - Leyburn roads at Ellangowan a few weeks ago and were at Glengallan on Monday.
There are properties registered at Clifton they are hoping to get to in the coming weeks.
Mr Young said most volunteers are grey nomads who stay for a weeks before going again and therefore more volunteers are always welcomed.
He said “anyone willing to have a go” would be more than appreciated.
Ms Buttler said it has been ideal to have three teams of four to six working at the same time.
Meals are provided for volunteers and there is space to camp at Warwick Showgrounds for those wishing to do so.
