Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Portfolio Lead Cr Tim McMahon said he was “thrilled” to see work commencing on the project.

TRC Council budgeted $80,000 for design and construction with a further $50,000 donated by Oakey Chamber of Commerce.

“This project is a collaborative project between Council and the Oakey Chamber of Commerce that will see an investment in the beautification of both soft and hard landscaping elements on Campbell Street Oakey, in particular between Bell Street and Bridge Street,” he said.

“The project will include the beautification and planting out of existing garden beds as well as new sandstone blocks on either end of Campbell Street that will provide a new entry statement.”

“It is great to see this level of collaboration between Council and the local chamber to improve the amenity of the Oakey town centre.”

Council trucks have already been seen working on the main street, placing new mulch in Campbell Street’s garden beds.

The Oakey Chamber of Commerce has been central to community consultation on the project which has had input from the Oakey Urban Landcare Group and several residents.
