Stolen vehicle plows into Oakey property
The occupants of a Hamlyn Road, Oakey property are lucky to escape injury after a stolen vehicle plowed into the front of their house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said police were tracking a stolen four-wheeled drive which was travelling west on 4AK Road.
“Police used a tyre deflation device on the road. The car has continued over the device then failed to take the bend into Hamlyn Road before colliding into the front of a house,” the spokesperson said.
“The occupants of the property sustained no injuries.
The spokesperson said the three occupants of the vehicle decamped and fled on foot.
An 18-year-old Chinchilla man was arrested and charged with eight offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, burglary and commit an indictable offence, stealing, receiving tainted property and contravening a domestic violence order.
He was denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
An 18-year-old Toowoomba woman was charged with burglary and commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and receiving tainted property.
She was granted police bail and is due in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on September 6.
Police are continuing to search for the third person.
Property owner Wayne Halliday said he is still trying to come to terms with the incident.
He said his son was in the front bedroom at the time of the crash and is lucky not to be hurt.
“We heard police sirens going, then this big smash. We first thought a car had crashed out the front actually,” he said.
“When I opened the door and the car was sitting right in front of the door.
“When we heard the sirens, it’s lucky my son didn’t get up and stand [at the window] and open the curtains. It would have got him.”
Mr Halliday said his son is a shaken up from the incident.
“I don’t know how we’re going to get him to sleep in there again,” he said.
