Stolen, burnt vehicles more prevalent
The number of stolen vehicles which are being set on fire is causing concern for authorities.
Across the district, isolated, and in some cases not so isolated, roads are becoming the site for offenders to dump vehicles that have been stolen.
Before the offenders decamp, they set fire to the vehicle in an effort to destroy any evidence which may lead to the identification of the thieves.
In a recent case, Police were called to reports of a vehicle on fire near East Drews Road at Westbrook just after 5.30am last Friday morning.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found no one inside the utility or anyone needing medical attention.
Further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from a Harristown address overnight.
The vehicle’s owner was notified and the vehicle has been recovered.
Investigations are ongoing.
Local police continue to issue warnings to owners to ensure that vehicles are locked and that keys are not easily accessible for would-be thieves.
