Spots available on committees
Do you want to get better involved with the wider community? Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking new people to join its Regional Youth Advisory Committee (RYAC) and Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC).
Up to 13 committee members are sought for each committee.
Applications close 5pm on Friday 24 January 2025.
Successful applicants will start their role in March 2025 until December 2027. The committees will meet quarterly, on the second Thursday of the month.
The RYAC provides recommendations and advice to Council regarding issues or projects effecting the local youth sector.
Committee members directly influence and implement the TRC Youth Strategy 2025-2030 and subsequent Youth Action Plan.
Individuals who currently represent and work with young people, particularly those with experience in employment, disability, health, community development, education, child protection, youth justice, police and emergency services are encouraged to apply.
RYAC committee chair Cr James O’Shea said it was more important than ever to form a committee devoted to advocating for our community’s youth.
“Almost a quarter of our community is persons aged 0-17, based on the last Census data,” he said.
“This is a large portion of our community, so we need to ensure we are taking care of their interests.
“Our youth have been experiencing a multitude of issues as of late, and we need to be doing anything we can to help.
“Committee members will need to be passionate about supporting our youth as they will have the opportunity to directly impact their outcomes.”

MAC members provide support, recommendations and advice to Council on a range of issues or projects impacting the Region’s culturally and linguistically diverse community.
Members of the locality with experience from sectors such as health, education, community, employment, police and emergency services are encouraged to apply.
Joining the committee offers a meaningful opportunity to create a positive impact and foster real change in the lives of residents from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Cr O’Shea said it was important to have a committee dedicated to helping those in the community who may not have a voice.
Members of the MAC will develop and implement a Multicultural Strategy and subsequent action
plan which will directly influence the outcomes for thousands of community members.
