The Allora Sports Club Inc. has received funding of $179,974 to be used on the Allora Golf Course.

Club Secretary John Ellwood was delighted with the grant that will be used to build a new bridge across to the golf course plus others repairs. He said:

The grant monies will be used on the Allora Golf course.

Firstly, the funds will assist with the cost in repairing wash-outs in the creek banks which were caused by the three flood events earlier this year. If the wash-outs in the creek banks are not repaired, they will get worse with every flood and there is a real risk that the sixth tee box and seventh green could be damaged beyond repair.

The grant monies will also be used to pay for a drain that was necessary at the sixth green because a spring had opened up following the floods.

Finally and importantly, the grant will be used to build a new bridge to access the golf course. The original bridge has born the brunt of many floods over the past 25 years and had weathered well until this years floods. The assessment team from the Department of Sport and Recreation deemed that whilst the existing bridge is serviceable, it will continue to deteriorate with continued flooding and should be replaced.

The committee of the Allora Sports Club appreciates the professional manner in which the grant application was managed and they are very excited with the decision.

The funding was allocated through the Queensland Government Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program.

The Allora Tennis Club has received funding to the amount of $321,146 to be used for resurfacing the four tennis courts.

President of Club, Mandy Mutch is over-the-moon on what this will mean for the future of tennis in Allora.

After many years of applying for grants to improve the facilities at the Allora Tennis Courts it has finally happened.

Mandy Mutch, President of the Allora Tennis Club received notification that funding to the amount of $321,146 has been granted through the Queensland Government Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program. This follows $100,000 funding received by the Club last week from the State Government Gambling Community Benefit fund.

These funds will mean huge improvements including resurfacing the four courts, bringing them up to a high standard, allowing official tennis tournaments to be held at Allora. Also to benefit will be School Groups and competitions for Seniors.  At present the courts are only suitable for social games.

Part of the funding will also be allocated to upgrade the fencing around the courts.

The President will be liaising with the Committee, tennis players and any Allora residents who would like to give feedback on the project.
