Sports club's plans in disarray due to road damage

Hodgsonvale Community Sports Club (HCSC) has had to cancel its Irish night, meant to be held Friday 11 March, due to culvert crossing over the creek at the club sustaining significant damage.

The damage occurred after heavy rainfall during the last few days of February, which saw over 300mm of rain fall on Hodgson Vale.

The culvert crossing over the creek is closed as it has been undermined and there is a steep drop off on one side.  This situation is even more dangerous at night time.

HCSC in conjunction with Toowoomba Regional Council hopes to get an alternate route via the top car park but due to workloads and the ongoing wet weather this will most likely not be achievable this week.

HCSC Secretary Ted Cavanagh said the club hopes to be able to go ahead with the function the
following weekend but this might not happen depending on the culvert repair works or an alternate access road being built in time.

"This will also have an affect on any private functions that patrons may want to use the HCSC club for," Mr Cavanagh said.
