Special service held for Joffre
Part of Joffre Bell’s busy Anzac Day week schedule, which included many services and his own 103rd birthday, was a special service put on for him in town by his alma mater The Southport School.

Last Wednesday, the service was held outside the F. E. Logan Hall, attended by representatives from the school and its old boys association, Mr Bell and his family and a few locals.
The school’s Chaplain and Deputy Headmaster led the service and were joined by Joffre himself, who recited The Ode.
A group of students formed the catafalque.
The service was followed by a lunch prepared by the Clifton CWA ladies.
This was the second year in a row the school has honoured Mr Bell, its oldest living former student.
Last year he was flown via helicopter to attend a service on the Gold Coast.
