Southbrook workshop on new dairy tech
Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation (QDO) is conducting a digital workshop in Southbrook on 8 July that will explore ‘smart collars,’ a device used to monitor the health of their cows.
The workshop will be held at Garratt’s farm, located at 714 Linthorpe Valley Road, Southbrook.
All Sessions will run from 10am to 2pm with lunch and refreshments provided.
Guest presenter Vaughn Johnston from Semex will present the Semex Ai24 collar system.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
Following the workshop, a regional meeting will be held with be held with news updates from QDO and a presentation from Paul Reynolds and Kame Khouzam from Solar Energy & Battery Storage Solutions.
They will explain tariffs and electricity changes as well as the different options to reduce energy costs and consumption.
The workshop is funded through the Queensland
Government and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ Agribusiness Digital Solutions Grant Program.
Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner said Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation (QDO) would receive $200,000 towards adopting digital animal health management systems for the industry.
QDO President Brian Tessmann said the grant will support a $646,880 digital herd monitoring project that will provide financial assistance and support for 10 producers to implement the technology and establish producer demonstration sites where farmers can share learning and see the technology in action and deliver regional industry training workshops in the Darling Downs.
“This is a great advance in animal health and welfare for the dairy industry and a valuable tool for farmers as the technology monitors individual cows and the herd to provide health and reproduction alerts, allowing for the early detection of anything that may be making the animal uncomfortable,” Mr Tessmann said.
Mr Furner said a total of $5.5 million is being invested over three years.
