Sister Kenny’s memory lives
Over 80 people converged on Nobby on October 8th for a special evening commemorating Sister Elizabeth Kenny.
Members of the Sister Kenny Memorial committee were very happy with the turnout and said the evening was a great success.
The speakers included Michael Jackson, an educator for Polio Australia who travels around Australia to teach people about polio and post-Polio.
Attendees had a look around the Sister Kenny museum before venturing across the road to Pepperina Gallery.
For the first time in a very long time, people will able to see the documentary film ‘The Kenny Concept of the Disease Infantile Paralysis’ from the 1940s.
The committee had paid for the film to be digitally restored and preserved for posterity.
Also unveiled on the evening was a replica iron lung, a device which used to be used to treat people suffering from polio.
It was constructed from scratch by committee member John Warner.
