Sharon Salomon calls it a day
As well as resigning from Oakey State High, Chappy Sharon Salomon also left a mark on Oakey State School where she has finished working.
As the roller doors at Oakey State School’s tuckshop rose to reveal a feast of colours and flavours on May 12, students, staff and Brekky Club volunteers gathered to farewell someone who has become an Oakey icon over the last nine and a half years.
Not only was this Sharon Salomon’s last day as chaplain at Oakey State School, it also marked the end of her significant chaplaincy career which began twelve years ago in Millmerran.
Chappy Sharon became a chaplain at Oakey State School and Oakey High at the start of 2014.
On her last day, pancakes were on the Brekky menu in addition to the normal fruit and toast.
Throughout Sharon’s chaplaincy in Oakey pancakes have featured in various celebrations and significant events.
This day was no exception.
The Brekky Club concept was one of Sharon’s visions for the school, and with the support of the Brekky Club coordinator, Mrs Lesley Hughes and a team of generous volunteers, it has been providing a service to the school on two mornings a week.
At morning tea time school staff officially farewelled Sharon and acknowledged her contribution to the school.
Principal Mr Scott Pacey paid tribute to Sharon during her last week.
“Chappy Sharon has provided many students and their families with support over an extended period of time,” he said.
“Her caring attitude and welcoming smile meant that our students would often seek Sharon out when they needed someone to talk with.
“Her service at Oakey State School will not be forgotten and on behalf of the Oakey State School community I wish Sharon well for her future endeavours,” Mr Pacey concluded.
