Now a Toowoomba Regional Council employee, Bernie started at the library in the Clifton Shire Council days and is possibly the last staff member from the Clifton Shire to still be working.

She commenced work at the Clifton Shire Council on the 19th of February 1989.

The library back then was part of the Shire Chambers, moving to its current location next door in 2002 and undergoing a refurbishment in 2019.

Former Clifton Shire and Toowoomba Region Councillor Anne Glasheen strongly encourages anyone who has interacted with Bernie at the library over the years, or through Bernie’s extensive volunteering
work, to take the time to thank her.

“Bernie is the fountain of all knowledge and history for Clifton,” Mrs Glasheen said.

“Say thank you to Bernie for her dedication to her role as a librarian and dedication to the community as a whole.”

Those wanting to say goodbye can visit the library during its opening hours 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm Wednesday and Thursday this week and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.

On next Thursday, 20 February, an official thank you will be held at the library with invited guests.

Afterwards the public will be able to say goodbye for the rest of the day.
