Santa’s busy in Goombungee

Before Santa Fair at Oakey on Saturday, Santa was busy in Goombungee on Friday night (8th December) at the Not New Op Shop.

Santa’s arrival was keenly awaited.
Santa’s arrival was keenly awaited.

The occasion was  Goombungee’s  Community Christmas event.

The main highlight was Santa’s arrival and an elf parade and costume competition for the kids, along with beautiful Christmas lights and window displays in the local shop fronts.

Christmas tree decorations were handmade by Lyn Pukallus, while Cynthia Kanard played the role of Chief Elf.

Crs Kerry Shine, Bill Cahill and Carol Taylor were in attendance, and Council employee Breanna McCarthy was involved in the planning of the Community Christmas.

Bronwyn Holland from the Goombungee Arts and Cultural Enterprise thanked the community for getting behind the event.

“A big thanks to Council and their staff for organising the ever-popular Santa and his Sleigh,” she said.

“Next year we’ll be concentrating more on the kids activities.”

Tonight (Wednesday 13th), there will be a Christmas Carols Evening at the Goombungee Christian Church and the Not New Op Shop.

This will be held outdoors, weather permitting, so make sure to bring a rug if you are going along.

A barbecue will take place at 6pm followed by carols at 7pm.

The Voll sisters and the Volp family will be leading the carol-singing.

Carol Organising Committee member Denise Iseppi said it’ll be a great night.

“It’s a lovely time to celebrate Christmas and the meaning of Christmas,” she said.

“It’ll be mostly traditional carols. Even if you’re not a singer, join in.”
