Residents celebrated Melbourne Cup in style
There was no horsing around when it came to celebrating the Melbourne Cup in Pittsworth as over 100 residents frocked up to attend the luncheons around town.
Both the Pittsworth State School and St Stephen’s Catholic Church hosted luncheons last week to raise money for the Primary School P&C and the church respectively.
Pittsworth State School held its luncheon at the Pittsworth Hotel Motel and had 54 ladies attend to have some fun, socialise and indulge in a two-course meal and some champagne.
Throughout the course of the luncheon there were sweeps, a lucky door prize, a silent auction, raffles and fashions on the field.
Lilly Pilly Style also included a fashion parade which was organised and run by Tania Wallace and Tanya Anderson.
Tammy Vary, Ros Von Hoff, Rhonda Ashton, Jess Briggs and Lyn Wagland modelled five different pieces of clothing each.
Small displays set up by Pittsworth businesses lined the room, giving those in attendance the opportunity to purchase goods and support the
locals.
Those who organised the event said it was a success and the fantastic atmosphere suggested everyone had an enjoyable day.
They said it was a beautiful display of the community coming together to support the P&C in a fun, unique way.
Overall, approximately $900 was raised from the event which will go towards upgrading literacy resources and beautifying the school, among other things.
St Stephen’s Catholic Church also hosted a luncheon at Club Pittsworth, raising over $1300 for the church itself.
Seventy ladies and gentle-men dressed up for the event to spend an afternoon socialising, enjoying a few drinks and indulging in nibbles and a buffet lunch.
A lucky door prize, sweepstakes and raffles were also run at the luncheon.
About eight prizes, donated by a number of businesses including Cains Pharmacy, Yandilla Rose, Just Cuts, Park Lane Jewellery, Pittsworth Confectionery and the Golden Grain Motel, were up for grabs.
Fashions on the field was also incorporated into the event, with prizes being given out to the lady with the best fascinator, the best dressed lady and the best dressed gentleman.
This year, Beccy Karlisch won the prize for best fascinator, best dressed lady went to Val Hohn, and best dressed gent went to Kent Antonio.
A number of fun games were also played throughout the course of the afternoon.
Organisers said the luncheon went well and everyone had a good time.
Both the Pittsworth State School and St Stephen’s Catholic Church wished to thank their sponsors for making the luncheons a possibility.
They also thanked the Pittsworth Hotel Motel and Club Pittsworth for their fantastic food and hospitality.
