They say there’s nothing better than home grown produce, and how could there be when you’re able to grow vegetables this big?

After some much welcome winter rain passed through the region earlier this year, enhancing crop growth, Pittsworth resident Merv Fowler has been growing some massive carrots and beetroots this season.

With the carrots weighing in at approximately 700 grams each and the beetroots over one kilogram each, there’s no denying that the Fowler’s vegetable garden has been flourishing, and this was recently reinforced when they had great success in the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers (TCOF) Garden Competition.

Merv and his wife Alma took first place for their outstanding vegetable garden in the Regional Productive Area section of the competition, and now that the TCOF is finished, they are enjoying picking fresh vegetables out of their garden to eat every day.
