Record numbers at interschool shoot out
Friday, 11 October saw schools from across the Darling Downs South West put together teams of three shooters to compete in the small bore, fifty shot target event at the Laurie Bowe Rifle Range.
A whopping 60 shooters travelled from across the Downs to test their accuracy with a supplied Club .22 rifle at the Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club.
School teams in attendance were from Allora State School, Concordia, Warwick, Pittsworth State High School, Dalrymple Creek, Toowoomba Anglican School (T.A.S.), Oakey State High School, Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club Jnrs and host school Clifton State High School (C.S.H.S.).
The morning wind was doing its best to blow a fair gale, but by mid day it eased up making conditions a bit more favourable.
Top ten shooters for the day were as follows:
•1st Beau Taylor: 377.5 Clifton State High School
•2nd Nathan Knight: 374.5 Oakey Town team
•3rd Rebekah Robinson 373.7 Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club
•4th Spencer Peters: 373.3 Warwick Town team
•5th Cienna Neilsen: 371.5 Clifton State High School
•6th Sam Wippell: 369.3 Toowoomba Anglican School
•7th George Douglas: 368.4 Toowoomba Anglican School
•8th Will Peters: 367.4 Dalrymple Creek
•9th Edward Foreman: 367.2 Toowoomba Anglican School
•10th William Baguley: 366.3 Toowoomba Anglican School
The school team that took out the top two placings on a total point score was Toowoomba Anglican School.
Warwick’s in form junior shooter Spencer Peter’s helped etch his Warwick Town team in to a close 3rd place.
But much excitement on the day was around the perpetual shield, awarded for the ‘Highest Individual Combined score’ from the two rounds.
The Perpetual shield went to local Year 8 legend Beau Taylor, from Clifton State High School on 377 points.
Very close behind in second place was Oakey town student Nathaniel Knight on 375 and in third place, in form shooter Spencer Peters, shooting a 373.
Young Year 7 Pittsworth State High School student Jack Warburton took home both the Encouragement award and the Most Improved shooter from Round 1 to Round 2.
Clifton State High School, in conjunction with the Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club has hosted the Interschool shoot for the last four years.
It’s the only Interschool shoot in the state.
We pride ourselves on hosting it in our community and hosting it safely.
The fact that the only Interschool rifle shoot in the state is right here in Clifton is fantastic for both our club and our High School.
