Rapid Relief Team drops in
Toowoomba’s Rapid Relief Team (RRT) dropped into McLean Care CWA House recently.
The Rapid Relief Team provided a free burger and cold and hot drinks to visitors including Pat Weir MP, braving a passing shower in their marquee.
Established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in 2013, RRT is a
not-for-profit organisation which offers catering assistance, product donations and disaster support to charities, government, emergency and health services.
The Team brought some of its assets which include its semi-trailer, barbecue trailer, marquees, coffee trailer and pods and cool room trailers.
The Team also offers a Community Connect program which aims to bring together farming families over a free barbecue lunch, connecting them with local support services, and donating livestock pellets and/or hay bales to disaster struck farmers.
In the 2019/20 summer bushfires, RRT donated Eftpos gift cards, food boxes and RRT plush toy mascot Cookie the Kookaburras to those in need in the bush.
Locally, the Rapid Relief Team has bases in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Warwick and supported Queensland Fire Department crews for over 1,200 hours in 2023, including at the Cecil Plains fires.
