From the foot of the Bunya Mountains, Quinalow State School travelled to the bright city lights of Brisbane, following up a trip to Beef Week, by picking up ribbons at the Royal Queensland Show.

Across the week of Saturday 3rd August to Sunday 11th August, students exhibited steers that were owned by the school and others that were provided to the school from Marion Simmonds and Neil and Rachel Goetsch.

Their generous support has allowed the students to work with these cattle at school and use them as part of their agricultural education program. The students also helped out with some stud cattle from Callaway Poll Herefords, Huntington Charbrays and Rose Oak Santa Gertrudis.

On Monday the students participated in Nutrien Young Paraders with Noah Kucks – fifth, Josephine Ballon – sixth and Emily Ballon – ninth,  finishing in the top ten out of approximately 50 competitors in the 11-13 years age group.

Tuesday was the steer young judges which saw our first team of judges compete at Ekka.

In the 11-13 year age group, Noah Kucks placed first out of approximately 60 competitors!

The whole team also competed in the Interschool Herdsman Award in which the students placed third.

Some of the students then competed in the Stud Cattle Junior Paraders and Junior Judges on the Thursday.

Students Sophie Schull placed 2nd and Charlee Doring received a highly commended in the 11-13 years age group of Junior Judges.

The students then helped out Isaac Billiau and James Dockrill from Pinedock Fitting Service with the Charbrays and Herefords in the stud competitions.

To top off the week, alongside James and Isaac, the students were involved in the Open Herdsman Award in the Beef Shed and they received first place.
