Praise for Landcare advocate
Local Landcare leader Rebecca Kirby has been recognised for her caring and creative community work in the biennial Queensland Landcare Awards.

Rebecca was one of six nominees in the Individual Landcarer category of the 2023/2024 awards, with Tamborine Mountain Landcare president Judith Roland announced as the winner on Saturday May 25.
Rebecca Kirby and Oxley Creek Catchment Association secretary Lynn Whitfield were both highly commended.
Ms Kirby has been Millmerran Landcare co-ordinator for the past 12 years, after volunteering with the group for several years prior to that.
Twelve months ago, she also became Pittsworth Landcare’s project officer, thereby extending her tireless efforts across both districts.
Through workshops, community meetings and outreach programs to schools, she continues to empower local communities with greater knowledge of sustainable land management practices - all with seemingly boundless energy, enthusiasm and cheerfulness.
The 2023/2024 awards ceremony were co-ordinated by Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC) simultaneously at six venues across Queensland, including at Newtown Park in Toowoomba.
QWaLC chair Mary-Lou Gittins OAM said the awards are a prime platform to recognise people across the state who go above and beyond in their dedication to support local communities and enhance their environment.
“Rebecca brings heart to absolutely everything she does,” Ms Gittins said.
“She works just as brilliantly with kindy children as she does with adult landholders, and shows a phenomenal capacity to inspire active participation across that wide range.
“Plus she does a lot of unpaid volunteer hours in all her roles.”
