Politicians visit Pittsworth
Member for Condamine Pat Weir and LNP Senator for Queensland James McGrath spent the day in Pittsworth last Wednesday visiting local organisations, community groups and businesses to chat to locals and hear about any issues that need addressing.
Over the course of the day, Mr Weir and Senator McGrath were able to have a meeting and tour of the Beauaraba Living Aged Care facility, as well a tour of the Pittsworth Men’s Shed, followed by a barbecue lunch.
After lunch, they then visited Pittsworth Confectionery and completed a tour of Cooks Soft Drinks.
Senator McGrath, who lives in Warwick, said it was great to visit Pittsworth to hear from locals and be reminded of the significant potential a town like Pittsworth has.
“As a senator for Queensland I spend my life on the road, and today I’m spending the day with Pat Weir in Pittsworth looking at issues ranging from the crisis in aged care across rural and regional Queensland, to dealing with community groups like the Pittsworth Men’s Shed in terms of the support the Government has been able to give to them, and visiting businesses,” Senator McGrath said.
“People forget that in towns like Pittsworth there’s so much potential for business and so much growth, especially following COVID.
“One of the unintended consequences of COVID is how the internet has allowed all of Queensland and all of Australia to discover places like Pittsworth in terms of if they want to move here, but also in terms of businesses to be able to grow.
“So, I’m here to listen, I’m here as someone who lives on the Downs, as someone who lives as part of the broader community, to see what I can do working with David Littleproud and Garth Hamilton as two of the federal members who cover the broad area, to stand up for Pittsworth down in Canberra.”
Senator McGrath said a number of issues had been raised throughout the day, including the impact ‘red tape’ has had, and continues to have, on aged care facilities.
