Platinum couple 'still in love'

Kevin and Joyce Baker celebrated their Platinum wedding anniversary on Tuesday 24th January with wellwishers ringing from around the globe and a letter from King Charles.

“It was sprinkling outside this morning and I said to Joyce it was raining 70 years ago too,” Kev said, recalling their rainy day nuptials at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Toowoomba. 

“Joyce was a good sort wasn’t she,” he quips, looking at their wedding photo. 

“We were young and in love and we’re still in love,
I might say,” Joyce adds. 

Pittsworth born and raised, Kev was a builder when he met Joyce, a telephonist from Felton, at a function at the site that is now home to RAFF.

Kev’s work as a builder took him all over the Darling Downs and Joyce enjoyed dress making and working as a teacher aid at the high school after the telephone exchange swtiched to automatic.  

They had three children and now have six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

“They all keep in touch and that brings us great happiness, “ Joyce said. 

The couple enjoyed staying busy in the Pittsworth community and were involved in Rotary and Meals on Wheels and are both life members of Pittsworth Golf Club.
