Pittsworth Lions Changeover
Members of the Pittsworth Lions Club held their 57th Changeover dinner at the Pittsworth Hotel Motel on Saturday night.
Outgoing President David Olischlager reported on the 2021-22 Lions year, noting that despite climate and Covid interruptions, the club achieved another successful year, being able to raise some $12,000 to charity in the 12 months, and have some fun doing it.
The club’s major donation has been to a Lions’ pup from the Hahndorf training centre in South Australia.
He will graduate as an Assistance Dog trained in both Hearing and Diabetic Assistance, and be given to an Australian needing such assistance.
Pittsworth Lions organises the Leyburn Sprints gates with help from two other local zone Lions Clubs.
The three clubs decided on the pup donation and on the name Lee.
Other donations have been to Tongan Disaster Relief and to several medical research foundations.
President David’s final role as the club’s president was to present donations to two local organisations, Care Pittsworth and the High School Chaplaincy Committee and to make awards to some Club members.
Past District Governor Beverley Bates installed the incoming President Stephen Johnson, pictured right, and his Board, and President Stephen outlined his hopes for Lions in the 2022-23
year – which were basically as they have been for the previous 57 years: “More of the Same!”
