Pittsworth excels at 26th Australian Scouting Jamboree

Last week, eight Pittsworth Scouts and Venturer Scouts, alongside adult leaders Taryn Binstead and Stacey Schultz, joined nearly 10,000 youth members from Australia and overseas at the 26th triennial Australian Jamboree, which spanned 12 days, and was held at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre.

The Jamboree saw Pittsworth’s youth members embark on the experience of a lifetime full of adventure, fun and meeting people from across the country and each of the international contingents (including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Canada, Sweden, Indonesia and Norway).

The extreme heat and heavy rain, resulting in incredibly muddy conditions, made movement between activities difficult but were no barrier for the resilience of our youth and their participation in activities including abseiling, aquatic pursuits at Hervey Bay, hatchet throwing, STEM challenges, the mud run obstacle course, archery, geocaching, motorised esky riding, and a visit to the home of the Croc Hunter - Australia Zoo.

Lit up by the spectacular fireworks display at the opening ceremony, the Showgrounds became the site of a bustling tent city.

Youth were also entertained each night at the Main Arena, where performances by Amy Shark, Budjerah, DJ Havana Brown, and Sheppard excited attendees of all ages.

Additionally, a comedy night featuring Dave Hughes, the AJ2025 talent show finals, and a country hoedown attracted large crowds.

Pittsworth participants faced numerous challenges over the course of
the Jamboree, including physical ailments and difficulties associated with
the adverse weather conditions – however, the thrill of adventure, adrenalin of seeing big-name acts live and the life-long friendships made both within the Queensland contingent and contingents of Scouts from other states and countries made the experience more than worth it.

“AJ2025 was incredible,” Pittsworth Venturer Ava Schultz said.

“I felt that over the course of the camp, the connection between myself and the members of my patrol became so strong, that each activity was even more enjoyable than the last and we were able to have so much fun together.

“Meeting new people from other states and countries, trading badges and pins with them, and being able to enjoy the best of Queensland together was an amazing experience,” she said.

Following the phenomenal closing ceremony, Pittsworth Scouts and Venturers have been left with new friends, new skills and lasting memories.

These Scouts will now turn their attention to their next big event, the 26th World Jamboree in Poland in 2027.

An Australian Jamboree is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for most Scouts—why not give your child the chance to be part of it?

Pittsworth Scouts welcomes young people aged 8 to 18, from Cub Scouts through to Scouts and Venturer Scouts.

And it’s not just for the kids - becoming an adult leader is an incredibly rewarding experience and a whole lot of fun!

Pittsworth Scout Group meets Friday nights during the school term, commencing at 6.30pm on 7 February at the Pittsworth Den in Quarry Street.

Youth can trial Scouts for three nights before making a financial commitment.
