Pardey Photography Exhibition now open
It was with much excitement that the official Grand Opening of History Pittsworth’s Herbert John Pardey Photo Exhibition went ahead last Thursday, marking the beginning of the three-week long display.
A large number of distinguished guests, including some Toowoomba Region Councillors, gathered in Pittsworth’s old bank on Yandilla Street to get the first glimpse of the exhibition which showcases Pittsworth’s forgotten past.
At the opening event, those in attendance heard of the life of the photographer who is responsible for the production of the photos, Herbert John Pardey, and how the exhibition came to be, thanks to the Lindenberg family, Eric Victor and David Seeto.
Following the formal and official opening, everyone admired the 96 digitised glass negatives on display while enjoying some light refreshments.
With many of the people in the images and the locations in which they were taken still unknown, locals had the pleasure of trying to find a familiar face or place in each of the photos.
Many stories were shared and much of the previously unknown history has been unveiled.
The photos on display were taken between 1903 and 1917.
The exhibition will now be open to the public on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm until March 20th.
Entry is by a gold coin donation.
